Nominees need to meet the criteria of excellent accomplishments in a clinical setting, which can include but are not limited to: work with clients, work in a local or regional government agency, new treatment techniques, innovative service delivery models, use of technology, or unique legislative initiatives.

Nominees must be a member of VSHA. Speech-Language Pathologists  and Audiologists are eligible for nomination.

A nomination letter must be written and include the following information:

Name, address, and phone number of nominee.
Name, address, and phone number of person nominating.

A description of the nominee’s qualities.  Why does this person deserve recognition?

Include any comments of and/or examples of some of the following:
professional development
personal achievements
colleagueship
collaboration/teamwork
skills/programs/therapy ideas
innovative programs/creativity
leadership
advocacy for the profession

Up to 3 recommendations can be included. These could be from peers,
administrators, parents.

The award will be given out at the May VSHA conference. The award
comes with $300.00 cash award.

Foundation Call for 2009 Nominations

Rolland J. Van Hattum Award for Schools-Related Professionals

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation requests nominations for the Rolland J. Van Hattum Award for Schools-Related Professionals. A brief description is provided below. Nomination forms may be downloaded from the ASHFoundation Web site here.  Nominators may also obtain the official nomination forms by calling the Foundation at 800-498-2071, ext. 8703. 

The Rolland J. Van Hattum Award will be made to one individual in recognition of exemplary commitment and contribution to the delivery of audiology and/or speech-language pathology services within a school setting.

Criteria for Selection
Eligible activities or achievement for which the Van Hattum Award will be given include, but would not be limited to:
·       the conduct of exemplary clinical services, supervision, or research in a school setting;
·     the development of an innovative program (e.g., clinical, training,) in a school setting with an emphasis on those that are replicable; or
·      the promotion or enhancement of public or private support for audiology and speech-language pathology services in the schools.
 
The 2009 Award
The award recipient will be announced and recognized at Foundation events during the 2009 ASHA Convention. A plaque and an award of $1,000 will be given to the recipient of the award. In addition, $500 will be awarded to the school system that the recipient represents.
 
Rolland J. Van Hattum
The Award is memorial recognition of Rolland J. Van Hattum who had a long and distinguished career in the provision of services and support of audiology and speech-language pathology services in the schools. He believed strongly in the dedication and professionalism of his colleagues in the schools and, until his death in 1987, continued to advocate for the support and recognition of their achievements.
